Announcing ESP32-S3 Support for Pico HSM

We are thrilled to announce a significant milestone for the Pico HSM project: we now support ESP32-S3 boards! This major update expands the capabilities of our project, allowing users to transform ESP32-S3 microcontrollers into powerful Hardware Security Modules (HSMs). With this enhancement, the ESP32-S3 joins the Raspberry Pi Pico family boards in providing robust security features, making it an ideal choice for various cryptographic applications.

Enhanced Security with ESP32-S3

The ESP32-S3 is a highly versatile microcontroller known for its advanced features, including secure storage, flash encryption, and secure boot. By integrating the ESP32-S3 into the Pico HSM project, we leverage these features to provide an even more secure environment for generating, storing, and managing cryptographic keys.

Why Choose ESP32-S3?

The ESP32-S3 offers several advantages that make it an excellent choice for security-sensitive applications:

  • Enhanced Performance: With its dual-core processor and enhanced computing capabilities, the ESP32-S3 can handle complex cryptographic operations efficiently.
  • Advanced Security Features: Built-in secure storage, flash encryption, and secure boot provide an additional layer of protection against unauthorized access.

Getting Started

To start using the ESP32-S3 with the Pico HSM firmware is pretty simple: go to ESP32 flasher page, put the ESP32-S3 board into DFU mode (BOOT+RESET buttons) and follow the steps.

This is just the beginning

The addition of ESP32-S3 support marks a significant advancement for the Pico HSM project. We are excited about the enhanced security and versatility this brings to our users.

We invite you to explore this new capability and provide us with your feedback. Together, let’s continue to push the boundaries of hardware security and cryptographic innovation.
